What made you decide to join the company?

My name is Misaki Asada and I work in the service team at KAI Oku-Hida. In addition to the service team, I am also in charge of public relations for the facility. I joined the company in October 2018, and this year marks my seventh year here.

In college, I majored in English and American Literature, and did an internship at a hotel in Auckland, New Zealand. During that time, I learned not only the language, but also how to read Japanese moods, how to notice subtle changes in people's facial expressions, and how wonderful the interesting and fascinating culture of the Japanese is. I still remember being very excited about Hoshino Resorts, which uses this as a strength and offers Japanese "omotenashi" hospitality.

What kind of work have you done and what do you find rewarding about it?

Since joining the company, I have been working as part of the service team, doing everything from serving dinner and breakfast, check-in, and cleaning rooms.

In addition to my work as a member of the service team for the past six years, I also planned S-pro and training, and was involved in food and beverage, and gained a lot of experience, and after six years at the company, I finally had the courage to take on the challenge of opening a hotel. I also felt a connection with the opening of KAI Oku-Hida this time, as my hometown is in the Tokai area, and finally applied for the job. My dream came true, and I was able to be involved in the opening of KAI Oku-Hida, and I was also given the role of public relations for the facility. I feel the attention and expectations of people in Nagoya and Gifu, as well as the attention from the media, from the interviews I receive every day, and although I am nervous, I feel that I am able to express the area and the hard work of this wonderful facility to customers in the Tokai area and all over the country through the media, and I find it very enjoyable and rewarding to work on this project.

In what ways are you making use of your past experiences?

I inherited my bright and positive personality from my mother, and I think that I can move on from my mistakes and enjoy my work every day. Also, since Kai Nikko, where I used to work, had a lot of inbound customers, I wonder if I was able to make use of the language and communication skills I learned in university? And this Takayama area also attracts a lot of attention from overseas customers, so I think I can continue to make use of them in the future. Also, I was able to meet very positive, interesting and wonderful colleagues at each facility while working at Kai Nikko, Kai Kirishima, and Hoshinoya Taketomi Island. I am very encouraged that I can still keep in contact with my colleagues all over the country, give them advice, and receive advice from them, and build wonderful relationships with them. Even now, having such wonderful colleagues all over the country is what makes my work worthwhile, and I think that having staff all over the country that I want to work with is one of my motivations.

How do you spend your holidays?

I think I'm good at switching between spending time alone and going to see friends and family. When I'm with friends, I go back to my hometown of Nagoya and meet up with old friends, friends from my school days, friends from part-time work, etc., and eat meals while talking about all sorts of things for the first time in a while, which really refreshes me. I crave my mother's food regularly, so I always request it and go back to my parents' house. However, time alone is also very important, so I buy some good tea, some good snacks, and arrange flowers with my favorite pottery, thinking about which mug I should use today, and spending time alone is also very important, so I think I'm refreshing by switching between the two well.
