What made you decide to join the company?

My name is Shotaro Kurosawa and I work in the Bridal Marketing department at Karuizawa Hotel Breston Court. I joined the company in April 2018.

As for why I joined the company, I'm from Karuizawa, so my first part-time job was actually at Hoshino Resorts' Hotel Breston Court, a wedding hall, where I got to see how Hoshino Resorts worked and the people who worked there, and I continued working there until I was in my fourth year of university. At that time, I was looking at various companies as potential employers, and I thought that Hoshino Resorts would have an atmosphere where I could be myself and take on various challenges, so I chose them and joined the company.

What experiences have you had since joining the company and what are your motivations?

Since joining the company, I have had the opportunity to experience three different jobs. The first was the one I was assigned to first, working in the service team at a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) called 【Kai Alps】, where I did things like housekeeping, check-in, and cooking meals, among other tasks associated with working at a ryokan.

What I felt through this was that because the facility is very much like Hoshino Resorts, I was able to create an appeal unique to KAI Alps through attractive development, share the connection with the local people with our guests, and have them enjoy that appeal, which was rewarding.

My next transfer was to the "Banquet Unit" at Karuizawa Hotel Brest Court, where I provided support on the day of weddings.

There are also things like actually serving food and drinks,

As the venue manager, my job was to help the bride and groom to make their wishes come true on the day, and I was able to be the closest person to help them on this once in a lifetime special day, so seeing their faces so happy and hearing them say things like "I'm so glad!" was what made my job so rewarding.

Thirdly, I am currently in a unit called "Bridal Marketing", where we introduce our church and venue to people who are considering having a wedding there, and if they actually like it, we can make a contract and they can return on the day. In that case, it is important that they like Karuizawa itself, and that they like us about our church and venue. I really think that our church and venue in Karuizawa are wonderful, so I find it rewarding to be able to share the things that I like with others.

Have you felt that your experience before joining the company has been put to good use in your work?

As for the areas where I'm making use of my past experiences, my parents' home was a cafe when I was a child, so I often had contact with older people and people I'd never spoken to before. I think that communication skill is being put to good use at my current company.

I like talking to people, so I've been talking to a lot of different people since I was a student.

Speaking with people older than me has been a great source of nourishment for me, and even after I entered the workforce, talking with people from work and building communication and trust with customers has become a real base and foundation, so I think that this experience I have gained so far is being put to good use in my current work at a company.

I guess it's a part of communication.

Please tell me how you spend your holidays

On my days off, I often enjoy the great outdoors of Nagano, and what I'm into the most right now is riding my motorcycle on the nice roads of Nagano. The air is so fresh, and the nature changes with the seasons, so I enjoy the change of seasons.

The other one is "fishing".

My father is an amazing fisherman, so I go fishing with him and we spend time catching up on what's going on with our families, although it's not really a father-son bond.

I also like skateboarding and traveling. Recently, I went to America on my honeymoon and brought my skateboard with me, and went skateboarding at parks in America. That was a very memorable private time for me.
