Karuizawa experiences autumn leaves about a month earlier than the Tokyo metropolitan area. 1 autumn-themed books are available on bookshelves set up in the rugged landscape of the Hoshino Area Plaza. Why not spend a relaxing, calm moment under the clear autumn sky as time flows quietly?
A rich moment surrounded by colorful autumn trees
In autumn, the square around Hoshino Onsen Tombo-no-Yu is decorated with the red of maples and the gold of larch trees. For a limited time, a bookshelf that doubles as a bench will be installed in this square. The bookshelf is lined with books about nature and travel that you will want to pick up in the nature-rich Karuizawa. There are also books with autumnal themes such as "Autumn of Art" and "Autumn of Appetite", which will make your heart flutter. Enjoy a comfortable reading time surrounded by the vibrant autumn leaves.
Parents and children can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the world of picture books
There is also a children's corner with picture books and cushions so that children can enjoy reading books too. Parents and children can enjoy reading books together and relax while enjoying autumn reading.
Weekend onlysmall bookstore
On weekends, a mobile bookstore run by Analog Books will be set up to sell second-hand books. They have a wide selection of books on nature, travel and art, and it's exciting to encounter such carefully selected books. They provide a heartwarming place for people to meet books.

We offer a rental service for special reading items so you can immerse yourself in a comfortable read in your favorite place. "Book Relay" - Pass on books filled with memories to the next person
We will be holding a "book relay" where books that are too good to throw away can be passed on to new owners. Books that you no longer read can be placed on a special bookshelf with a message attached, and if you find a book you like, you can take it home instead. Not only will you be passing on the books, but you will also be passing on the feeling of cherishing books to the next person.
Karuizawa Hoshino Area 110th Anniversary Corner
Hoshino Resorts has been in business for 110 years since opening the Hoshino Onsen Ryokan in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture. To celebrate the 110th anniversary of the Hoshino area, we will set up a corner to showcase the works of writers who visited the area during the Taisho era. There are still several historic stone monuments remaining in the Hoshino area, including those of Akiko Yosano and Hakushu Kitahara.
